US Navy Mess Attendant 1st Class Florentine Edquiba died in the crash of the airship USS Macon in Monterey Bay. He drowned when he attempted to swim back to the wreckage of the giant airship to retrieve his belongings. The airship was damaged in a storm near the coast of California, causing it to lose helium and descend into the water. The Macon was based at nearby Moffett Field in the San Francisco Bay area.
