Last Known Activity
Christopher Lee Burford was born in Annapolis, Maryland. Since his father was in the Marine Corps, he traveled all over the country and overseas, and ended up in Hubert, North Carolina, where he joined the Navy shortly after finishing high school. The 23-year-old started his career at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. He then moved to the Fleet Training Center in Norfolk, Virginia, for a three-month stint before joining the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations Telecommunications Center at the Pentagon in June 2000.

Christopher Lee, a Petty Officer Third Class, was an electronics technician. This assignment brought him closer to his birthplace and near relatives in Maryland whom he would visit frequently, always bringing books to study for classes or exams. He was taking college classes when time permitted, always trying to better himself.

Christopher Lee was full of life and everyone who came into contact with him couldn’t help but feel it. He loved disco bowling with his friends and took his sister, Ashley Renee, along with him on occasion. Karaoke at the VFW was big on his list as well. His nickname was “Cheetah” and he was notorious for doing “Cheetah flips.” He lived life to the fullest every day until that fateful day in September. His bench at the Pentagon is beautiful and a wonderful place to reflect and remember. He will never be forgotten.
