BM2 Albert Yarusinsky Sr.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Mr. Yarusinsky served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and died in 2010 at the age of 89. After graduating from high school in the coal mining town of Marianna, Pa., Mr. Yarusinsky he joined the Navy in August, 1942. He served for six years in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. In the Atlantic, he was aboard the USS Kennebec, supporting the invasion of North Africa off the coast of Casablanca, Morocco. In the Pacific, Mr. Yarusinsky served aboard the USS Langley, seeing action at the invasions of the Truk, Saipan, Iwo Jima and the Battle of Leyte Gulf, as well as raids upon the Japanese mainland island of Kyushu. He completed his duty aboard the USS Vermilion in the Mediterranean, returning home as a boatswain's mate 2nd class.
