Last Known Activity
CLAGUE--George W. Clague, age 87 of 1222 Dumpling Court, Green Cove Springs (formerly of Zellwood) died 9-3-12. He was born in Glassport, PA to Frederick Clague and Gladys Wilson Clague.
He was a 32nd degree Mason receiving his 60 year pin in July, and a member of the South Seminole Lodge No. 364 F. & A. M, the Orlando Scottish Bodies, and the Bahia Shrine where he was a 56 year member and active in the Bahia Legion of Honor. He was a member of the Naval Submarine League and the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII having served as president of the Central Florida Chapter as well as Deputy State Commander. During WWII he served on the submarines Razorback and Sea Dog in the Pacific after joining the Navy when he was just 17 years of age. Mr. Clague had been a volunteer worker at the Christian Sharing Center near Orlando for over 15 years and had served on it's Board of Directors for three years.
He was cofounder of the Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance Service in Henrietta, New York and served as a paramedic.
Mr. Clague retired in 1991 after 27 years with the Heavy Truck Sales Dept. of Ford Motor Company having moved to Florida with the company in 1985.
Mr. Clague was preceeded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty. He is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (Tom) Nalepa of Ann Arbor, MI, Linda (Bill) Miller of Wadsworth, OH, and Gwen (Ed) Braddock of Green Cove Springs, FL. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, 11:00 AM in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, FL. Family and friends will visit at the funeral home on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 5 until 7 PM.
George was a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his family and found joy in being with his great-grandchildren. He was a man of honor and integrity who proudly served his country, and spent much of his time involved in community service .
