James P. Ewell, 87, of Macungie, formerly of Allentown and Philadelphia , died Saturday, September 15, 2012 , surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Mary (Bradley) Ewell. Born in Philadelphia , he was the son of the late James P. and Ellen ( Anderson ) Ewell. Jim was a graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia and LaSalle University , and was a district sales manager for Uniroyal Corporation for many years until retiring. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Orefield, as well as a former member of the Cathedral of St Catharine of Siena , Allentown , and the Knights of Columbus. A Navy Veteran of WWII, Jim served on the USS Gabilan and the USS Pirahna submarines in the South Pacific. He was President and Treasurer of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the U.S. Submarine Veterans of WWII. Jim was also an active participant for over 50 years in the Philadelphia Mummers Parade.
