Last Known Activity
MANCHESTER Ermin D. "Ed" Narehood, 89, died at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011, at York Hospital. He was the husband of Jeanne M. (Wildasin) Narehood. Born October 18, 1921, in Adams Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Reed F. and Alverta M. (Heeter) Narehood, he retired from Hamilton Watch Company. He also served in the U.S. Navy for four years during WWII, and in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 19 years. During his time in active duty he obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was a recipient of the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Five Stars. He was a member of the Sons of American Revolution and Sons of the Battle of Gettysburg. In addition to his wife of 35 years, Mr. Narehood is survived by a daughter, Stacia N. Gates and her husband, Samuel of Spring Grove; stepdaughter, Darlene C. Leber of Weigelstown; five grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carrie Brouse of Lewisburg. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Monica A. Narehood. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, at Prospect Hill Cemetery, gathering at the Pennsylvania Ave. entrance at 9:50 a.m. Military rites will be presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
