Last Known Activity

Pearl Harbor survivor. He was on the USS Oglala when it was sunk during the Japanese attack.  Because of his excellent diving skills he spent the next few days diving to recover bodies. This took its psychological toll on him in later years.

He was then assigned to the USS Honolulu on which he served until late 1945.  He participated in 8 major battles/campaigns in the Pacific even though his ship was in the U.S. twice for damage repairs.

Perhaps unfortunately, he was with the USS Honolulu in Norfolk, VA, for repairs when the war ended.  I think he would have wanted to celebrate in the middle of where he spent so much of his service time.
