Petty Officer Figgins was aboard Indianopolis CA-35 enroute from Guam to Leyte Phillippines.After having delivered the uranium and other key components for the Atomic Bombs, Indianopolis was torpedoed by the Japanees sub I-58 just after midnight Monday 30 July 1945. Two of the 6 torpedo spread hit the ship and She went down in about 12 minutes.
