LOCATION: NORTH KOREA

NEAR PYONGYANG

Lieutenant Commander Bowen was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was the pilot of a F4U-4 Corsair fighter and the commander of Fighter Squadron 114 (884) aboard carrier USS KEARSARGE (CVA-33). On November 8, 1952, while attacking enemy artillery positions near Wosan, North Korea, his aircraft was struck by anti-aircraft fire and crashed in the vicinity of Pyongyang, North Korea. He was presumed dead on November 9, 1953.
