HOLTZCLAW, GARY E.
Synopsis:
The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star Medal to Gary E. Holtzclaw (0-101637), First Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving with Company F, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d Marine Division (Rein.), FMF, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on April 10, 1969. By his courage, aggressive fighting spirit and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of extreme personal danger, First Lieutenant Holtzclaw upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.

Gary was a hero to us young boys. He was my friend Sturat Hamlin's uncle. We got the news when we were in the 3rd grade and was called out of class. He was an Annapolis graduate and a fine young man.
