USS Scamp was most likely sunk by depth charges from the Japanese corvette Kaibokan No.4 and naval aircraft some 125 nautical miles south-south-east of Yokohama, Honshu, Japan in position 33º38'N, 141º00'E, during her 8th War Patrol.

All 83 crewmembers onboard were lost.
