Boarded Japanese cargo ship Arisan Maru on 11 Oct 44 to await warship escort to Japan. ON 24 Oct 44 Arisan Maru was sunk by a U.S. submarine while in the South China Sea. Of the 1,792 prisoners on board, only eight survived.
