Last Known Activity My friend and fellow SAR crewman, Ron (27) was killed flying collateral duty as Flight Engineer on C-117 crashed at sea 16 miles off coast of Guam over the Marianas Trench. Navy Band member, MU3 Scott Smith (20), also in front of aircraft was killed. The date was 14 August 1978.
Ron & I lived close to each other on base and used to jog to work together in the morning.
Ron is survived by his wife, Janice Joyce Curtiss; his son, Ronald Hugh Curtiss, Jr.; and his daughter, Robyn Joy Curtiss.

Pilot & Copilot (LT Bob Bell) also survived, although Bob Bell was severely injured. I was first SAR Swimmer in the water on helo rescue after plane had sunk.
