"We need a bugler to sound the charge." Words uttered to XO when Cdr. Hathaway saw a large Japanese fleet steaming toward his destroy and Task Force 3, Battle off Samar, Leyte Gulf, 1944. Capt. Hathaway was awarded the Navy Cross for his daring attack against overwhelming odds.
