US Navy GMG2 Franklin Earl Wright, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Cherryville, NC.

US Navy Gunner's Mate Second Class Franklin Earl Wright was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Navy, GMG2 Wright served our country until November 10th, 1969 in Kham Duc, South Vietnam. He was 32 years old and was not married. It was reported that Franklin died from friendly weapon malfunction. His body was recovered. Franklin was born on September 4th, 1937 in Cherryville, North Carolina. GMG2 Wright is on panel 16W, line 055 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for 10 years.

He served with River Division 51, Task Force 116, United States Naval Forces, Vietnam.

He was awarded The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal(s).
