Last Known Activity
Marine Corps Muster Reports show him at many locations. Durning his entire Navy Career he serverd with the Fleet Marine Forces US Marine Corps (USMC)/7th Marine Regiment/1st Bn (1/7), but when they deployed for operations in some areas they would temporarily assign PhM personnel to the local Naval Medical Facilities. 
One one of the final muster reports  dated Dec 1943,  while be transported with the US Marines on the USS Brooks says in the muster report says " Date of sailing from (classified) for Dangerous Waters "  on there way to Papua New Guinea. 
He ws killed in action at Cape Gloucester, New Britain Island, West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea against Japanese Enemy Forces.

Awarded for actions during the World War II

The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Navy Cross (Posthumously) to Pharmacist's Mate Third Class Finley Arnold Gordon, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism and conspicuous devotion to duty while serving as a Medical Corpsman with Company C, First Battalion, Seventh Marines, FIRST Marine Division during action against enemy forces at Cape Gloucester in the Bismarck Archipelago on 10 January 1944. During the desperate encounter at Hill 150, Pharmacist's Mate Third Class Gordon constantly exposed himself to heavy fire while ministering to six injured Marines. He continued his work until he was killed while aiding a mortally wounded officer. By his courage and efforts in behalf of others at great risk to his own life, Pharmacist's Mate Third Class Gordon undoubtedly saved many lives, and his steadfast devotion to duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
