Comments/Citation I served as a Corpsman in the same Company as Biddle and am glad I am able to supply this information to his family. Biddle was a U.S.N. Medical Corpsman (field technician) attached to the U.S.M.C. - Fleet Marine Force. The combat unit we served with was: 2nd Platoon - Baker Co. 1st Bn - 5th Marines 1st Marine Division
I cannot recall or never knew our exact location the day he died, 6-8-51. I do know that on 6-1-51, we were at or near the village of Iuje. We moved north to the vicinity of the Hwachon reservoir and were at the "Punch Bowl" on 6-4-51. For the next several days we moved to different positions in the area that was called the Charwon Valley which is in North Korea. On 6-8-51, we were on a hill position and in a firefight with Chinese troops (CCF). It was mid-morning when Biddle was wounded in the left side of the head. As soon as we could, using So. Korean litter bearers. we moved him down the hill to the Bn. Aide Station. I went with him. He died there before he could be evacuated by helicopter to a field hospital. He never regained consciousness after being hit.
