Other Comments:

Joe and I played many jazz gigs together in Naples.  I was in the SIXTH Fleet band, and he was in CINCSOUTH's band.  His family and mine lived very close to one another in Licola, and we all became friends.  When he became ill and was going to Seattle, WA for his final days, I was at the airport heading to the Navy School of Music to assume instructor duty.  I met MUCS Jane Hoffman (she was in his band at the time) in the courtyard at Capodichino, and Jane told me how sick Joe was and where he was heading.  I never saw Joe again. He is one of the finest musicians (in or out of the Navy) that I've ever met or played with. RIP Joe.
