What are you doing now:
After retirement from the Navy I was hired by Hawaiian Airlines while on terminal leave. My original position was as a DC-10 Flight Engineer instructor then transitioned to the B-767 Instructing initial, upgrade and recurrent B-767 Pilot ground training classes. After 6 1/2 years of instructing I moved to the Safety department as an Internal Evaluation auditor, conducting evaluations and audits throughout the year for various programs within the flight operations area. I was later promoted to Manager, Operations Safety Programs managing the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP), a non-punitive vouluntary disclosure program for pilots, dispatchers and mechanics. I also implemented and managed the Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program in late 2009, this program looks at data points from all flights to detect trends and unsafe conditions providing this feedback to the Flight Operations Department as well as other stakeholders within the company.
I also assisted the Safety Management System manager with the SMS program and was the company point of contact for the Confidential Information Sharing Program (CISP) which allows the pilot ASAP Event Review Committee to see Air Trafic Controller ASAP reports involving Hawaiian Airlines from the ATSAP program and the company reciprocated by posting pilot ASAP reports involving ATC on this site. I was also involved in conducting various flight safety investigations as needed.
I retired from Hawaiian Airlines in August of 2020 after 19 years and 3 months with the company.

Best Moment Met my wife Keiko on the Kadena Deployment in 1976, she came to California 3/77 and we were married 6/77.
Worst Moment Getting sent on the 1980 Kef Deployment for the first month, not assigned to a crew, mainly stood duty FE.
Other Memories Checked in as a new ADJ3 2nd mech in April 1976, just before the Kadena deployment assigned to crew 10. Sent to VP-31 FE training in Fall 1977 after about 1 1/2 years as a 2nd mech. Made E-5 while in FE training and returned to VP-46 for another 2 years as an FE. I spent my entire 4 years in the squadron on crew 10. Made the '76 Kadena deployment, went up for one det to Adak during the '78 detachment and made the '79 Misawa deployment and just the first month of the 1980 Keflavik deployment.
