Best Moment
During a long weekend Zunker and I headed to Maine for some bear hunting. Drove all night to get there on a Sunday. We ate meals with the family that ran the place and they placed us on baited stands each day. Though we didn't see a bear, much less bag one, we did see some moose and shot a cooler full of squirrels. Brought the squirrels back to D.C. and cooked them up for a very tasty meal.

Transfer to Kitty Hawk after renting an apartment for the yard period. We had been joking amongst ourselves the entire trip back from Subic about the transfer happening. Fpur out of five of the shop PO's ended with a pink slip and free trip to Kitty Hawk.

While catching up with "Connie" I was transferred from command to command starting from Travis AFB to Tachikawa AFB to Clark AFB. Rode a bus to Subic from Clark and not long after we left the base we were stopped by a half track blocking the road, so the bus driver handed a guy who entered the bus a carton of Salems and we continued on our merry way to Subic. Upon arrival at Subic I was assigned port and starboard duty (I was in the port section) and told we had base liberty only. Next day about 1500 we were sent down to the piers to catch USS Missenewa to ride to Constellation. We were led to the fantail told to choose a cot, stash our bags under the cot and liberty would expire next morning. Next morning we pulled out and headed you know where to catch "Connie". Rode the oiler for a few days then were transferred to Camden via highline. That was an experience, we got to haul on the lines until it was our turn to hop in the chair. I think the only one that ended up getting dunked was the chaplain. Once on Camden I was assigned a rack in the brig and instructed to keep things orderly while there. Next day we jumped into a chopper and flew to good ship Constellation. What a trip, but I remember it like it was yesterday.

I passed out while down in the hull and was sent to sick call to determine the cause. Being a borderline student I ended up spending night and day on site in the quonset huts for those of us behind in study. After passing out again in an oral board, it was determined I was not going to make it through the school and when interviewed by the CO was asked what I was going to do if I was assigned to a PBR. I had no idea at the time, but I certainly would have accepted the assignment and done what I had to do.

Going to Saginaw with Dicer for his sisters wedding. She was attending boot camp while we were in Nuc School. We stumbled on to some Southern Comfort, polished it off on the trip to Saginaw with his aunt and uncle and upon arrival I destroyed the household head. Needless to say I haven't touched Southern Comfort again!
