A World War II Navy Veteran. Served in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the US Navy Seabees 103rd Naval Construction Battalion during the occupation of Okinawa. U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Ten was commissioned on 15 October 1943 as the 103rd Naval Construction Battalion at what was then Camp Perry, Virginia. The 103rd deployed to war-torn Guam during World War II, and thereafter remained on Guam to repair and build facilities there. On 2 October 1952, the name of the 103rd was changed to NMCB TEN. TEN remained on Guam until 1959, and then became mobile, home ported at the Naval Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, California.

A father of four and grandfather of ten. Drove the first motorized trolley car on the streets of San Francisco, California. His career driving began in Kansas City, Missouri as a transit bus driver. In this he followed in his father's footsteps. He moved his family from Missouri to California twice in his life. The last time he moved back to Missouri, he brought his family back to a small town in Missouri that was 100 miles south of Kansas City, called Nevada. There he was was a driver for the Missouri State Hospital and local school board. He was a Grand Master of the Masonic Order, a member of Eastern Star, and a member of the Elks Lodge.
