Green Family Funeral Home Obituary~~
Dennis R. Miley, 64 years of age, departed this life on Monday December 16, 2013 at McGuire V.A. nursing home in Richmond,Virginia. He was born in Niles,Michigan on September 16, 1949, and was adopted and raised in Florida by his parents the late Ralph and Ruth (Cunningham) Miley. Dennis served in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam Era from 1968-1970, as a door gunner with the SeaWolves. After 10 years in the military, he worked and raised a family in Virginia for 31 years. Survivors include his wife, Jane (Carlton) Miley; four children, Jesse, Todd, Andria (Brian Landrum) and Lindsey (Marty Boswell); and sister SuLin Miley. He took great delight in 13 grandchildren, Samantha, Allen, Autumn, Annabelle, Scott, Elena, Kayla, Amelia, Spencer, Max, Triniti, Michael and McKaleigh. Also surviving are his beloved sister-in-laws, JoAnn (Ken) Hartwig and Jan Carlton, brother-in-laws, John (Josie) Carlton, Jim (Sue) Carlton and Chester Carlton. Funeral services for Mr. Miley were held Monday, December 23, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the Green Family Funeral Home & Crematory Service in Mantua. Final resting place followed at Riverside Cemetery in Shalersville Township where full military honors were presented by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard Team, assisted by American Legion Post No. 193 of Mantua.

Dennis was attached to Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three, HA(L)-3 in Vietnam as a helicopter door gunner where he did two tours from 1968 to 1970 receiving the Bronze Star (w/Combat V), Purple Heart, and 5 Air Medals (Flight/Strike), Vietnam Service Medal (w/5 stars), Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation for Gallantry, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation for Civil Actions, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Dennis was in one of the two Seawolf helicopters shot down on the 28th of April 1969 in Cambodia.

Dennis got out of the navy in 1972 and went right back in to become an Air Traffic Controller. He stayed 10 1/2 years and got out as a First Class Petty Officer Air Traffic Controller. He worked for several government contractors in Naval Weapons Systems Testing and finally received a Bachelors Degree in Practical Ministry. Dennis was the Associate Pastor at a church in Fredericksburg for several years and a Chaplain.
