Hubert “Stanley” Eddins
Funeral services for Hubert “Stanley” Eddins, age 77, of Concord, was held at 2 P.M., Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas. Rev. Billy Bob Evans officiated the service and interment, with military honors provided by the United States Navy, followed in the Concord Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were be T.J. Foley, Steven Foley, Nathan Simecek, Micah Simecek, P.J. Simecek, Thomas Allen Haynie, Scott Noey, Denny Payne and Cameron Runnels.

Stanley Eddins was born on December 21, 1936 in Concord, Texas to William T. & Willie Mae (Haynie) Eddins. He was a graduate of Centerville High School and a retiree of the United States Navy. He began his Naval career on the Lexington on September 14, 1955. During his 24 years of service, Stanley was a member of and stationed at Recruit Training Command, Naval Training Center in San Diego, CA; Air Develop Squadron 4 in Point Mugu, CA; Utilities Squadron 1 in Barbers Point, HI; Naval Station in Bermuda; Helicopter Utilities Squadron 2, Naval Air Station, in Lake Hurst, NJ; Helicopter Attack (LIGHT) Squadron 3 in the Republic of Viet Nam; Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX; Oceanographic Development Squadron 8 in Patuxent River, MD and Training Squadron, Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, TX. Stanley ended his Naval service in 1977 back on the Lexington.

Stanley earned numerous medals and awards while in the Navy including, the Republic of Viet Nam Service Medal and Campaign Medal; National Defense Medal; Good Conduct Medal with three Bronze Stars; RVN Presidential Unit Citation Medal; RVN Cross of Gallantry and Meritorious Unit Citation.

In 1978, after his service in the Navy, Stanley moved back to Concord and began work for Centerville ISD. He worked for another twenty years as a custodian until he retired a second time. Stanley loved to ranch and loved tending to his roses and his garden. He was a Christian. Stanley passed away just one day after his 77th birthday on December 22, 2013. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife, Inez Eddins; sister, Mary Jo Rougeou and infant brother and sister, William “Peck” & Verna Joy Eddins.

Surviving family includes sister & brother-inlaw, Myrna & Joe Brown of Thornton; niece, Deborah Simecek & husband, Larry of Deer Park; great nephews, P.J. Nathan & Micah Simecek of Deer Park; great, great nieces, Riley, Ansley & Macie Simecek of Deer Park; friend, companion and caregiver, Tina Runnels and four special women who were like sisters to Stanley, Peggy Bell, Rita Payne, Linda Noey and Peggy Easterling. He is also survived by several special children who were considered as grandchildren, Carla, T.J., Carmen & Steven Foley and Katie & Cameron Runnels.

Walters Funeral Home in Centerville, Texas was in charge of all arrangements.
